<noinclude>We have very few known facts about Challender Clay. First, he served in the Revolutionary War along with his brother, David Clay and family friend Henry Holland (who would marry sister Sarah Clay). Second, he appears to have signed a petition in Washington County, Georgia in about 1795. Third, his children (or "orphans") drew lots in the Georgia land lottery of 1805, when they drew blanks, and again in 1807, when they won a lot in Baldwin County, Georgia. From the fact that he left "orphans," we can presuppose that he also was married. His wife may have died or may have remarried and left the children with Challender's family. Without more facts, it is impossible to know for certain. The best guess is that some of the children attributed to David Clay are probably actually children of Challender Clay, and are the "orphans" referred to in the lottery records.
