According to Benjamin Forbes, in a letter to Clarke Pratt Pond dated 7 Mar 1946: "The one in the oval frame is that of our great grandmother, Sallie Frisbie, of West Port, N.Y. she was blind. I have heard mother tell of her getting up one winter's night, and going out alone, and getting lost. They had a big dog which stayed with her and it is my recollection that the family found them huddled in a fence corner in the morning. The warmth of the dog's body probably kept our great grandmother from freezing to death."
